| 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful  Inferior materials, bad design; it broke on the first ride; no response from Avid CS, Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Avid Matchmaker - Pair (Sports) One of the clamps broke off when I put my bike in the back of a VW golf. This was on my first ride. No crashes, no impacts, just the padded back seat of a car. Why did this happen? The clamps are sculpted away to lower weight and to look cool I guess. Combine that design with the inferior materials used to make this product, and you end up with a weak clamp- so weak that when you pull on a derailleur cable the metal just snaps. Can Avid or SRAM do better? Of course. Just look at the Matchmaker X- which serves the same purpose, but has a much stronger design and is made of aluminum, not pot metal. However, that clamp only supports XX and Elixir CR Mag levers. If you have any other type of Avid brake, you are stuck with this, you might as well flush your 20 dollars down the toilet.I contacted Avid's customer service about replacing the broken clamp and have received no response. Save your money and stay away from this product till they redesign it! Manufacturing defect?I bought my bike new 2 months ago.. It came standard with the Matchmaker clamp set to allow the X9 / Juicy 5 combo to be mounted as one. It saves weight, and reduces clutter on the bar.. Also makes removing them easier as it is one unit. However, the right side shifter bracket broke while I was riding - literally just pushed it and it snapped off. I thought it was a fluke, and bought the standard SRAM aluminum mount. This last week (2 months with the new bike) I went down <5mph and it snapped the left one in the exact same spot. I would save the money, and just go with the standard aluminum clamps. They may add a few more grams, but it's better than having to finish a race using your bike as a single speed.
